Zuber of Winston-Salem were in Boone this weekend to join in the cele bration of the fortieth wedding anniversary of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Egget-s. Mrs. Dorothy Denton Palombo of Chicago, spent some time last week with her mother, Mrs. Mae Denton. Mrs. Palombo, an assistant professor at the Uni versity of Chicago, is the uni versity field supervisor for its graduate program for social workers in administration and community organization. Lt. Cmd. and Mrs. Robert T. Bishop and children Sherri and Debbie of Great Lakes, 111. have returned home after visit ing last week with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Moretz. Mr. and Mrs. E. Ford King Jr. and Miss Kate Peterson were in Bakersville last week for the funeral of Mr. Ira V. Peterson. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Banner and children Robert Jr..Gerald, Tommy, Barbara, Kathleen and Mary of Biloxi, Miss, have been visiting Mrs. Banner’s mother, Mrs. Pearl Michael of Lenoir. King and children Martha, John, Bob by and Margot of Garner visited over the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Troy L. Norris and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cobb. They at tended the wedding Saturday of Mr. King's niece, Miss Patricia Cobb and Mr. Phil Hampton. Monday after spending the weekend with rela tives in the county. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Payne Jr., returned Monday night from Wrightsville Beach. They were joined there for the weekend by Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Martin and Miss Suzanne Martin. Miss Kathryn Kelly of Chapel Hill spent the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Rich ard Kelly. Mr. and Mrs. Ray mond Kelly of Princeton, West Virginia visited with Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kelly on Sunday. Mrs. C. C. Ragan spent last week with her daughter, Mrs. R. V. Hayes and Karen in North Wilkesboro. T/Sgt. William J. Greer and Beth of Columbia, S. C. spent the weekend with Mr. Greer's mother, Mrs. Ralph G. Greer. Mr. H. Grady Farthing will be in Raleigh this week for the Dept, of Water and Air Re sources meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Toby Tegram and children Golden Lee and Connie Jean from Winding Gulf, West Va. spent the weekend with Mrs. Tegram's mother, Mrs. E. E. Earp and Mr. Earp of Vilas. PHILLIP BLAINE HAMPTON Photo tar Paul Weston Studio Cobb-Hampton Vows Said Miss Patricia Elaine Cobb, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Dempsey Cobb of Boone, be came the bride of Phillip Blaine Hampton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hammond Hampton of Boone, in the chapel of the First Bap tist Church in Boone Saturday at 4:30 p. m. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Boyce Brooks. Wedding music was provided by Miss Wanda Critcher, organist and Miss Sandra Cook, soloist. The bride wore a sheath gown of bridal satin, overlaid by a cage of organza appliqued with hand-embroidered lace. An or ganza train, extending from the shoulders, was adorned with matching appliques. A organza rose held her illusion veil and she carried an orchid bouquet. The Matron erf Honor, Mrs. Margot Cobb Brown of Boone, was attired in an empire styled dress of blue brocade with a full train. She carried a long stem white chrysanthemum with a blue center. Her headpiece was a blue satin rose with a short illusion veil. Bridesmaids were Miss Shelby Hampton, Mrs. Donna Cook Holtsclaw and Miss Joanna Cronland, all of Boone. Miss Erin Cobb served as a junior bridesmaid. Their ensembles were identical to that of the Matron of Honor, with the ex cejrtion of the full train, which was replaced by a back bow. As best man, the groom chose this father. Ronnie Ray of Dal las, N. C., served as head usher. Other ushers were Jack Cobb Jr. , Mike Sink, Terry Childers, Bill Cobb, all of Boone; and Darius Lewellyn of High Point, N. C. After the wedding, a recep tion was held in the church par lor. The bride is a graduate of Appalachian High School and is employed by Home Credit Com pany in Boone. The groom is also a graduate of Appalachian High School and is a rising senior at Appalachian State Uni versity. After a wedding trip to Stuart, Fla., the couple will reside in Boone. Dr. and Mrs. John G. Bar den have recently returned from a ten-day tour of points of in terest in the North Atlantic States and Canada, including two days at Expo-67 in Montreal. They also spent a week with Mr. and Mrs. Milton B. Barden and Libby in Frankford, Delaware, where Mr. Barden has accepted a new position as head coach and Director of Athletics in the John M. Clayton High School in Frankford. Mr. David Dougherty of Rock Hill, S. C. spent the Labor Day weekend with his mother, Mrs. Bernard Dougherty and Jane. Mr. Dougherty is a faculty mem ber of the Rock Hill Senior High School. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Richard son of Greensboro visited over the weekend with Mrs. Ella Richardson, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Matheson and Miss Dosie Greer. Mrs. Lunda Nobles spent some time last week with Mrs. H. E. Deal. Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Parker erf New Smyrna Beach, Fla. are visiting this week with their daughter, Mrs. Wade Coffey and Mr. Coffey. Dr. and Mrs. J. C. Canipe spent last weekend with Mrs. Edith Caldwell in Maiden and attended the Canipe reunion held in that city Sunday. STYAN Miss Matheson, Mr. Styan Marry Miss Evelyn Marie Matheson and Mr. George P. H. Styan were married on August 31, by Judge Joseph A. Macchia in his chambers in New York City. The bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gardner D. Matheson of Forest Grove, announce the marriage. The groom is the son of Mrs. Hilde A. Styan of Ayles bury, Buckinghamshire, Eng land, and the late Mr. Frederick S. L. Styan. The bride, a graduate of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, was employed two years by the American Red Cross as a recreation worker in Korea. After receiving a master’s degree from Rutgers University, she worked for the New York Public Library at Lincoln Center for the Per forming Arts. She is now leaving a position at the Library of Congress. Her honor societies include Pi Kappa Lambda and Beta Phi Mu. Mr. Styan holds a bachelor’s degree with honors from Bir mingham University in England and a certificate in statistics from Wadham College, Oxford. He has worked as a mathema tician for The Procter and Gam ble Company in Cincinnati and is completing a doctorate at Columbia University in New York. For ten years, he edited a monthly magazine section for Air-Britain, an international association of aviation histori ans, and has published mathe matical and statistical papers in market research, electrical engineering, and medicine. He is a member of Sigma Xi and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and a fellow of the Royal Statistical Society. The couple will live in Min neapolis where Mr. Styan will teach in the Department of Sta tistics of the University of Min nesota. Mr. and Mrs. Morrison C. Meriam, Windermere, Fla., announce the engagement of their daughter Jane Elizabeth to Stephen Robins Sanford, Or mond Beach, Fla., son of Ward B.
